    Time Trials 5/3 & 5/5-5/8

Good evening, Hurricane Families. Tonight's practice was wonderful! Everyone seems to be finding their "swim lungs". There were a lot of reminders to help with the rules of swimming for Time Trials on Saturday, but the most important thing is to have fun. Time Trials are like a practice swim meet, so if you are new to swim, ask questions, cheer for all swimmers, and bring lots of water and healthy snacks for everyone in your family. Please refrain from giving your athlete much sugar the morning of swim meets (even Time Trials). This will give them a sugar rush, but if they crash before their last event, their times won't be as good. Instead, use that "treat" as their reward for swimming well on Saturdays. Fuel your swimmer with their favorite fruits, veggies, and healthy snacks; limit sugars and carbs that morning.

Coach Cole and I tried to remember all swimmer and what they could swim. If your child ends up in an event they are not sure about, let's cheer them on to do their best! If we missed an event for your swimmer, or they want to try it, they can always get a time in that even next week. My goal is for every swimmer to swim every event, in their age group (even that one they don't like) at least one other time during the season.

If you can not make it to Time Trials on Saturday, there will be a lane open at all practices next week, during your assigned practice, to time your swimmer in preparation for their next meet. ALL swimmers must have a valid time in events BEFORE they can swim at a swim meet. Please let one of the coaches know at the beginning of practice that your swimmer needs to get times.

I can not say enough how sweet and respectful your children are! I appreciate the warm welcome from the Heatherwood Hurricanes, both parents and athletes (I know it takes a bit to get used to new coaches).

    See you at the pool!

    Coach Vedder
